Two times a day is just fine. You will find that you will have better orgasms when your body is more sensitive (namely when it hasn't relieved itself lately). Thus you might try holding off for a day just to see how good things feel. That's beside the point though. To address your actual question, I don't normally hear of guys doing what you do, but I can't see it being uncommon. It's seriously just like dry humping, only solo. Girls can do it with a pillow or stuffed animal (bad childhood memories...don't ask :-) ). You should be able to do so logically as well. As long as you're getting off, you're good to go. Have fun.
