Your hymen is a thin membrane that grows over the opening of your vagina/vulva and generally grows with your age. Hymens are individual as people and some girls are born without hymen. In reality, your hymen doesn't break so much as it tears and this tearing comes from the action of inserting something into your vagina.
With this in mind, you can also tear your hymen through activities Chi Chan has listed or even inserting a sex toy into your vagina. Hillary, you are also correct in that you are still a virgin as you have not had sexual intercourse yet however, your hymen may have been torn due to the usage of your dildo.
How can you tell if you have torn your hymen or not? 2 easy ways. Either go visit your doctor to check or use a mirror to have a self look. If you have a membrane or skin growing over your vaginal opening, then yes, you have your hymen intact. If not, then chances are you were either born without one or it has torn. You can jump on google for an idea of how an intact hymen will look and the variations that exist.
Finally bleeding, pain. Can you bleed? Sure. Will you bleed? That depends on the individual but keep in mind bleeding occurs only in about 40-45% of vaginal penetrations. Can it hurt? Sure. Will it hurt? Again depends on the individual and circumstances.
Hope this helps.

"generally grows with your age"
AMS: Are you suggesting hymens grow thicker with age? Or what do you mean exactly?
AMS (the Medical Mizard ) ·
Hi Andy, The hymen does change in thickness and to an extent elasticity and visual presentation with age (pre through post puberty) and estrogen levels. The change is not dramatic but is noticeable from pre-pubesence through to the end of puberty.
There's never a sure way to tell that I know of, but there's may ways to lose it without knowing such as horse back riding and even riding a bike. When your hymen breaks you bleed. If you think that happened, but you didn't bleed chances are that its still intact. But like I said it's hard to know. you can always check yourself by using a finger, but if you have small hands (like me) it might be difficult. I hope you are able to find out and wish you the best.
