All men and women are built differently. There are some of us that are short and stout or tall and slender. Let’s say that you are the tall, slender woman. This can be even more difficult when dating. Some of the men you date may be shorter than you. If this is true for you, here are a few tips that may make dating your shorter beau a little easier.
No heels!
Obviously, this is a big no-no. Anything that accentuates your height difference is off limits. So, although a nice pair of stiletto heels may make your legs appear twice as long, they will also make him appear twice as short, which can work against you. Generally speaking men who are of less than average height have the possibility of a minor inferiority complex, so showing off this height difference can even make him feel worse.
No big hair!
Although for the most part, “tall” hairstyles are totally out of fashion anyway. There are a few left that can be a negative for your new partner. Hairstyles that make you look taller will make your date appear shorter. You should also watch the length of your hair. There are occasionally shorter hairstyles that will also make you appear tall. You should be sure to talk to your hairstylist about which style is best for your current situation.
No long clothes!
You should definitely avoid long dresses and skirts and vertical stripes as these give the illusion of a longer body. Instead, shorten up your wardrobe. This means shorter skirts and (depending on the weather) capri pants. You should try to break up the length of your body. You can use horizontal stripes, shorter length jackets and thicker belts to do this. Remember that bright colors tops with darker pants can also give you the appearance of a shorter body.
No elevating yourself!
You should try to avoid standing on any steps that make you higher than your beau. Also, positioning yourself at a lower level than your partner can give a entirely different visual illusion. This may seem like a submissive move, but this may also help you divert those awkward moments. Although slouching is not recommended, as it can cause severe back problems later, it can help you appear at least a smidge shorter.
The emotional side of things…
Overall, men can be very sensitive about their masculinity. As men are stereotypically suppose to be bigger than women, talking about his height or lack there of may be a touchy subject. However, you can do these little things to put him at least a little at ease. Also, make sure that you are closer to his height can help to avoid some of the uneasy moments, such as your first kiss. Don’t be alarmed if your beau notices your attempts. Just explain that you didn’t want to make him uncomfortable. Sometimes this will be all it takes to put him at ease. However, you should try your best not to make his height an issue, as you probably undertand by now how that feels.
