There are a few advantages to dating a younger man if you’re an older woman. One of them is definitely the stamina the younger man can bring to the bedroom. Another is the fact that you, being the older and more experienced of the two, can (sometimes quite literally) show him the ropes. Whether it is for the eye candy on your arm or the fact that he makes you feel younger, do not hesitate to try this out for size.
Get used to being looked at
The trick is to have a bit of a thick skin. You are going to be stared at and comments are going to be made. People, despite this being the 21st century, seem to still frown at anything that is out of the norm. Now what the norm is, is anyone’s guess but apparently dating someone 10 or 20 years your senior certainly is not. So be sure that this is not something that is going to bother you – remember, at the end of the day, it is you who is going to look back at your life and recall all the good times, not the spectators,
Stay fit to keep up
It would be a good idea to be in shape. This is really a factor in any of today’s superficial scenarios, but if you are 45 and you want to spend a relaxing day at the beach with your 26 year old boyfriend, best you make sure that you look the part. Demi Moore certainly wouldn’t have been so lucky with Ashton Kutcher if she looked like a bowl of jelly. Don’t fool yourself, this guy doesn’t want to marry you and he, like you, is in it for the fun of it, so make sure you don’t want him to come over only when there is a power outage.
Stay detached emotionally from the younger man
Don’t get emotionally involved. You guys get on like a house on fire and the chemistry is amazing but that doesn’t mean he loves you. It is not impossible for a fling to turn into something more serious, it certainly has happened before, but don’t invest too much of yourself into this affair. Keep it casual for the best part and remember to have fun. This works both ways. If you are in it solely for the experience and you sense that he is getting in too deep, make sure he knows where he stands with you. It is not difficult for a younger man, especially if he is still a boy in his early twenties, to become infatuated with the allure of an older woman. Let him know from the start that this is a mutually beneficial friendship with benefits and nothing more. Put an end to it as soon as he starts to send you poetry or wants you to meet his parents.
Don’t think it will last forever
Just make the best if it while it lasts. This is a short term investment. Again, it is not impossible for a superficial fling to turn into something more serious. But think about what is best for both of you in the long run. Very few, if any (correct me on this), relationships with a big age difference last long; it is hard enough for same age relationships to last. The window of opportunity is going to close when you reach your fifties, so enjoy yourself while you can. Flirt with that 25 year old even if you are 40, he might flirt back and before you know it you are having the time of your life between the sheets. If you’re young at heart, enjoy his youth and go crazy – you deserve it.
Oh, and maybe one last thing: don’t give him your ATM pin number.
