If you’re a high school student, you might find that your dating options are limited during the academic school year. Restrictions seem to come at you from all directions: parents who want you to spend quality time with the family and get enough rest, teachers who pile on homework that takes up what might otherwise be free time, extracurricular activities and practices that require you to spend much of your time either rehearsing or competing. Add in the volunteering and community service that you try to do so your college applications will like you’re a well-rounded person, and it sometimes seems that you don’t have time to think about dating, much less actually do it.Many high school students find that their schedules and commitments are packed so full during the school year that the only time they have to date – if any – is one or two nights on the weekend. If you want to squeeze in a little more time with your main squeeze, you’re going to have to get creative.
Use your time in school to socialize
First, don’t discount the school day. If you work at it, you can fit some fun and quality time in in just a few short minutes. For instance, consider packing a picnic lunch rather than eating in the cafeteria one day a week. You don’t have to prepare anything fancy, but even cold cuts and corn chips from home are often preferable to the gray, unidentifiable slop the lunch ladies sling. And remember, the picnic is a classic date idea for a reason; you’re just putting an unusual and modern twist on it! Similarly, if you can’t find time to sneak in a movie during the week, you could download a webisode of your favorite online series to your iPod and watch it while you wait for the bus. Even if you bring microwave popcorn and canned sodas, you’re still going to save 20 bucks and two hours! Additionally, you could bring a small kite to school and fly it between classes.
Be together on school trips
You should also make the most of school trips that you and your high school honey take together. The bus ride en route can be a great time to catch up, and you’re sure to make memories on your off campus capers.
Make a study date…
It might not seem like a load of fun, but you can always schedule a study date. Parents are almost certain to support this because they would view it as an academic endeavor rather than a social one, but just experiencing quiet companionship as your review your history notes or tackle quadratic equations is nice because you you’re still getting to spend time together.
Go to school events together
Additionally, you could make the effort to attend performances at your high school. Even the smallest schools have at least a couple of events going on campus at night, like band concerts, school musicals and athletic events. In addition to getting to spend more time together, you’ll impress teachers who think you’ve caught the school spirit bug.
