So, you are off to college. This can be the most fun and exciting time in your life. However, with your new freedom, comes a far more strenuous schedule and a whole new group of hotties to chose from. Well, before you dive in here are a few things to remember.
Get used to a college schedule
First, as I previously mentioned, you will have a more hectic schedule than you are used to. Unlike high school, no one will be standing over your shoulder to make sure your homework gets done. This is left solely to you. There may be some things, such as dating, that suffer due to time constraints. If you are dating someone who is also in college, they may very well understand your dilemma. Some students even choose to only date casually or not at all their first year. This can be helpful in getting used to your new schedule, before you try to add a social life to it.
Try looking for someone in your major
Second, dating someone with the same classes or major can cut down on broken dates or hurt feelings. You will both understand if a date needs to be cut short or cancelled due to an impending term paper or final. This may also give you a jumping off point for other things you have in common. Just be careful that your classes aren’t the only things you have in common. Also, regardless of what year you are in, sometimes dating some who shares your major can make dating easier. They may have already taken the classes you are in and would possibly be more understanding and respectful of your need for study time. Or you may even be able to get some quality time in by studying together.
Be careful at parties
Next, assuming you and your partner are in a more exclusive relationship, there may be time when your partner is too busy to go out. Well, the great thing about college is there is most always a party somewhere. You should still be careful. Alcohol , for some students, can wreck havoc on a grade point average as well as a relationship. You should also remember that some campuses are “dry” campuses. This means if you are caught with alcohol on campus property regardless of a party or not, they can “throw the book” at you. You could lose your scholarship or worse (be expelled).
An easy way to get of a date in college
Next, there are a few last things you should be wary of. If you go on a date with someone and begin to feel uncomfortable for any reason, do not feel obligated to finish the date. Chances are your instincts are right and you should walk away. Plus, you always have something you should be studying, so there’s a built-in excuse to head for the door.
Stay safe when dating in college
College can also be a breeding ground for diseases, everything from the common cold to the more serious STD. So, play it safe. You can protect your immune system by getting plenty of rest and eating healthy (well, at least squeeze in a fruit or vegetable between bowls of ramen noodles). You can protect your body by practicing “safe sex” or even abstinence.
Remember why you’re at college in the first place
Finally, remember that although there are literally thousands of new people to meet and hang out with, you are there to get an education. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take time to develop your new social life. Just be cautious of how much time. Play hard, but study
