As of yet, you are a dating guru. You know how to flirt, you know the right body language, you know to maintain eye contact and most importantly, you know how to keep them hooked. Problem is that you aren’t too sure of what to wear. There a many times when choosing the right outfit is vital, but one of the most important times is the first date.
Thinking about where you’re going
It’s hard to dress for a first date because you aren’t very familiar with the person so you don’t know what their style preference is. You obviously want to look amazing but you don’t want to go over the top. You also may not know where you are going for your date and you want to dress location appropriate. That is where the first step comes into play. Determine where your date is taking place. If you are simply meeting for a coffee, dress in something cute and cozy. If you are meeting at an expensive restaurant, wear a nice dress and some heels. A casual event such as a game or a fair – nice jeans and a cute top. Do your best to dress for the environment that you will be in.
Where to find clothes
Go shopping in your own closet. A lot of times we forget about all of pieces of clothing we have and run out to the store to buy a new outfit. This is completely unnecessary and a waste of money. We don’t always think to mix and match all of things that we already have. Dig through your closet and pull out some of your favorite items and lay them out where everything can be seen. If you can’t see it, you may not think to incorporate it. Now is the time to be creative. Put together a few outfits by taking pieces from here and there and pair articles that you haven’t ever paired before.
Don’t forget about the shoes!
Shoes are one of the most – if not the most – important factors of an outfit. You NEED to find out if you will be on foot for an extended period of time because you do not want to be that first date that complains about aching feet. If you still want to wear those 4 inch stilettos, pack an extra pair of cute flats in your purse. If you are going to be in a comfortable setting, black pumps can never go wrong. Whether you wear them with a dress or a pair of jeans, they always look good. Not comfortable in heels? Black flats work too.
Thinking about the date’s reaction
Think about your idea of a good first impression. Would you like to show up on a first get together only to find your date looking like he or she was not at all put together? Like they just rolled out of bed and made no effort? Doubt it. As sad as it is, we all know that people judge us immediately upon first-sight. You have the chance to look incredibly presentable on top of your wonderful personality. Do you want your clothes to present you as chic? Sporty? Conservative? Preppy? Eccentric? Choose your look and work with it! Say for example, you went with the eccentric look. Opt for a nice, colorful scarf or handbag that both compliments and is completely opposite your outfit color scheme.
The outfit that you can’t go wrong with
If you have cleaned out your closet and have not found the right outfit, the little black dress can never go wrong. If you don’t already own one of these, you need to get on that as soon as possible. The LBD can be worn on dates, to parties, to events, anywhere (mostly). Add some heels and a nice purse and you’re all set.The first date is really all about the first impression. Though it may seem kind of petty to say that the outfit really does matter… well, it does. Putting together a nice outfit for the first night out can be challenging, but if you follow these few simple rules… it should be a smooth ride. Happy dating!
