It’s common knowledge that the genitals are not the only erogenous zones on the human body; in fact, most people would readily add to that list the lips, neck, breasts, and perhaps other body parts. Yet one erogenous zone that many people fail to mention (or perhaps even consider) is the anus. Anal play during sex remains a taboo topic of discussion in modern society despite the fact that stimulation of this area can be highly pleasurable. In addition to anal penetration via digital or object stimulation, rim jobs – which are essentially anal stimulation by the mouth and tongue – can be incredibly erotic for both men and women as well.
Preparation for a Rim Job
An effective rim job can take many forms, but one thing that is certain is that you’ll want your partner to be as clean as possible before you perform a rim job, so it’s advisable to bathe beforehand. Keep in mind that fecal matter is rife with disease, and you don’t want to introduce anything of that nature into a warm, moist environment like your mouth – especially if you have an open wound, fever blister, etc. To increase arousal for the both of you, set the mood, and ensure that the anus is as clean as possible, consider taking a shower together and bathing one another. (Note that some people who engage in anal play prefer to have an enema first, but that is not strictly necessary so long as good hygiene and a thorough cleaning of the area with soap and water precedes the sex play.)
Positions for a Rim Job
There are many possible positions in which a person can be to receive a rim job, so there’s no particular right or wrong position in which to be. The rim job receiver might choose to lie on his/her back, which allows him/her to see the person giving the rim job. However, this position generally requires the receiver to lift his or her legs to provide better access to the anus, which can become tiresome and physically demanding on the receiver over time. A popular alternate decision is to be on the hands and knees (doggy style), which allows the rim job provider to spread the cheeks of the buttocks. You might also experiment to see if there are other positions in which the two of you are more comfortable.
Performing a Rim Job
Once you’ve found a comfortable position for the two of you, you’re ready to begin performing the rim job. Remember that as far as the human body goes, the anus and rectum are designed as an “exit” rather than an “entry,” so lubrication will be necessary. You can use a store bought lube if you choose, although we would recommend a flavored lube if you choose to go this route. However, the saliva in your mouth will produce plenty of lubrication.
As you begin to lick, kiss, and otherwise caress your partner’s anus, you might notice that the sphincter will begin to tighten. This is a natural reaction to anal play, especially for the inexperienced. Using a slow and light touch rather than aggressive licking and/or sucking will lessen this innate retraction as your partner relaxes and begins to enjoy the sensations of your mouth on his/her anus.
At this point you will want to take cues from your partner regarding what will increase or intensify the pleasure you’re providing. You might also want to intermix gentle digital probing with your mouthwork for variation. Keep in mind that both men and women can achieve orgasm through anal stimulation, although some people prefer a rim job only as prolonged foreplay.
