How to Handle the Stress of Moving in a Relationship

Article

Nobody likes to move, but the fact is that at some point in a relationship you’re going to have to do it. You’ll accumulate too much stuff for your two bedroom apartment, and you’ll soon want to invest in a house together. Most relationships go through a lot of fighting during a move just because of heightened stress and confusion. This might not be completely avoidable, but there are some things you can do to make matters a little easier. This article will explore and reveal such solutions for you.
Make a plan
I cannot stress this enough, The more of a plan that you have during a move, the easier that move will be. You need to know who is doing what and when they’re doing it. The best thing to do is figure out your packing schedule, like the living room will be done Monday, the bedroom Tuesday, etc. Set up goals that you can and will stick to. Reserve a moving truck ahead of time and know exactly when you can move into your new place. If you have all the cards in place, everything will go much smoother.
Don’t get stressed out
This is hard to do, I know, but you have to stay calm as much as possible. If you find yourself getting frustrated, step away from the situation and take a breather. Your partner will be stressed too, so any yelling you might do is only going to accelerate things. A small battle will be a full blown war in no time. You need to keep your cool as much as possible in order to keep things at a normal state.
Do your part in the move
A lot of times people feel like they are doing all of the work on their own. That can quickly lead to moments of rage as the used partner lashes out needing help. Just do your part and you should be fine. If your partner isn’t helping, confront them about it early on. Worse comes to worse, just pick up the slack so you guys can move on.
Establish a budget
Moving gets very expensive, so you need to have money allotted ahead of time to use. Set up a budget that you can go by and make sure to stick with it as much as possible. Do not over spend during this time. No eating out or crazy buys. Just get what you need to get because chances are something is going to come up that you cannot pay. You need to be prepared for anything.
Hire movers!!!!!!
Trying to move everything on your own is asking for disaster. There is too much lifting and exhaustion that goes along with that. You need to relax on the day of the move and allow someone else to do the work for you. Take that time to enjoy your new house and just be together. Then you get to unpack…
