When a man is trying to lie to you all of his mechanisms will change – his body language, voice, and attitude. He might think he is slick but there are ways for you to catch him in the act of lying. If you suspect dishonesty from your man or you just want to lie-proof yourself, take a look at these signs to look for.
Look Him In The Eyes
There is more than one reason why you should look into his eyes. First off, when a person lies their pupils usually dilate. Second, if he is lying to you then he will try to avoid eye contact with you at any cost. He will pay attention to the TV, a spot on the wall, the floor, or anything else besides your eyes that is in his line of sight. Avoiding eye contact is a sign of being both nervous and guilty, so this is a major red flag.
Pay Attention To Reaction Time
If you're questioning your boyfriend and he takes longer than usual to answer then chances are it's because he is trying to come up with a story. If you ask him where he was last night and he says, "Huh?" or "What?" when you know that he clearly heard your question, he is just trying to buy time. Unless he has a serious memory problem he should not have to think for very long if he is telling you the truth, so a delay in reaction time is definitely a sign of dishonesty.
See If He Becomes Defensive
If your boyfriend is trying to lie to you then he will become defensive and try to act like you did something wrong. He might try to convince you that the way you said something offended him or that your distrust is the root of all of the problems. Don't for this method of lying because he is only trying to shift the blame to get the heat off of himself. If you know that you have done nothing wrong and he starts to get angry at you (when you're the one who should be angry at him) then figure he is just trying to avoid the consequences of his lies.
Pay Attention To Body Language
His body language will reveal more than you'd think. Because it is relatively stressful to lie to you, he will tense up. If you see him clenching his fists, fidgeting with something in his hands, or tapping his foot on the ground, he is probably nervous – he would have no reason to be nervous if he was telling you the truth. He might put his hands in his pocket or behind his back just to occupy them. Mainly, take note to body language that is unusual or awkward for his behavior.
Notice Changes In His Voice & Words
Unless he is a professional liar, the pitch of his voice will stray from normal. His voice will become higher or it might tighten. If he is trying to lie to you he might start talking extremely fast, or really slow. If he starts talking slowly and emphasizing certain parts of words for no reason, it is most likely because he just does not know what to say. If he takes longer to say certain words then it will seem like he is talking more when in actuality he is just running out of lies.
Trust Your Instinct
Nobody is psychic but if you have the gut feeling that he is not telling you the truth, he probably isn't. If he comes up with all kinds of unrealistic stories then just ask yourself how all of these uncommon events could happen to HIM in one day – highly unlikely! Also, he will probably try to convince you that you're being crazy and paranoid, do not fall for this trick. You know that you're not crazy so don't allow a liar to convince you otherwise.
