Sex can be a whole lot of fun, but so can drugs and alcohol. While it may seem silly to equate all of those things with one another, the fact is that sex can put you in the same euphoric state as anything else that is addictive. If you have noticed that your want for sex has turned into a physical need, chances are you’re going to want to wean yourself away from the addiction. At least you’ll want to make it so that you aren’t at the mercy of your own desires. So, here are some tips to help you fight sex addiction.
See if you have sex addiction
The best way to tell if you actually have a sex addiction or not is to see what happens when you go a day without having sex. Much like any other addiction, you should go through some bouts of withdrawal where you get irritable or maybe even sweat a lot. You’ll notice a sudden change in mood. You need to see how much the sex affects you mentally. If it’s to the point that it’s all you can think of, literally, then you need to stop. Sex if fun to fantasize about periodically, but it can’t run your life.
Remove things that make you think of sex
The first thing you have to do to get sex out of your mind is remove the stuff in your house that may be causing you to think about sex. That might be porn or toys that you use on a regular basis. Whatever you fantasize about when you’re masturbating needs to get hidden or destroyed to get it out of your immediate thought. Going a step beyond that, you need to replace the old stuff with something new to think about, like car magazines or puzzles - just something to get your brain going. Get a hobby and stick with it so your time isn’t idle. Idle time will only lead right back to your old dirty thoughts.
Wean yourself off sex slowly
Trying to get away from sex is a challenge, so you’ll want to take things slow. Start by removing one sex time from your schedule. By that, I mean if you have sex twice a day, only do it once a day. If you have it once a day, go every other day. Once you have fully accepted that new routine, drop another one. You can progressively do that until you have no more need for sex.
Learn when to masturbate
If your sex addiction spawns from having sex with other people, then you may want to substitute some sex with masturbation. That way it doesn’t feel quite so good and it may get repetitive after awhile. If, however, your addiction is with masturbation, you’re going to want to wean yourself just like you would regular sex.
Final thoughts on getting rid of sex addiction
Again, remember to keep yourself busy and your mind going at all times. Get on a good diet that does not have a lot of aphrodisiacs. Try not to date someone who is equally as horny. Better still, date someone who refuses to have sex or only wants to every once and awhile. That lack of desire might help put the fire out for yours.
