The use of slang words and terms for sexual acts and parts of the human anatomy dates back centuries, and much of that slang has remained consistent and become relatively familiar in popular (if usually socially discrete) culture. For instance, all of the “Seven Dirty Words You Can’t Say On Television” that George Carlin popularized in his comedy routine in the 1970s are still in common usage today – most of which refer to insulting terms used to describe a person associated with sex or bodily and anatomical functions. There are, however, some slang sex terms that are much more recent in their invention or common usage and deserve at minimum a cursory glance if you wish to stay on top of what’s what in modern language related to sex.
Female Anatomy
Many slang words used to refer today to the female anatomy have been around for years, and most – especially those that refer to breasts – are easily discerned within context. Some, however, can be more challenging. For instance, the word “quim” has been a common slang word for the female anatomy for years abroad (generally in Europe and specifically in the United Kingdom), but it has begun to be used in American literature and pop culture only fairly recently. Other slang words for the female reproductive anatomy that have enjoyed increasing popularity in the relatively recent past include “vajayjay,” “bajingo,” and “gash.” (The last has been around for quite some time, but it’s only in recent years that it has become slightly less offensive and marginally more acceptable in a social context, especially since the proliferation of online pornography descriptions in the last 10 to 15 years.)
Male Anatomy
Again, most slang references to the male anatomy are relatively easy to interpret given at least a modicum of context within which to work. Any quick Google search for slang words related to the penis will result in literally hundreds of terms, ranging from common and relatively unsurprising in nature to comical to bordering on offensive, depending on your social stance. Common words that all mean penis include: dick, shlong, wiener, sausage, member, cock, boner, pounder, fudge packer (reference to anal sex), the legend and more.
General Slang Terms Related To Sex
The list of slang words and terms related to sex that are relatively common for those who are not conspicuously socially or sexually conservative is simply too long to be addressed here comprehensively, but here are the basic definitions of three common slang words you’re likely to encounter if you peruse the Internet, watch non-network television frequently, or are a purveyor of the slightly perverse....
Queef
The “fart” sound that may emit from a woman’s vagina due to trapped air that is dispelled during sexual intercourse. A relatively common term, it has enjoyed increased popularity in the recent past thanks to a South Park episode that featured queefing as a plot point.
Scissoring
Another phrase made more popular thanks to a South Park episode, “scissoring” is a sexual act between two women in which they rub or grind their vulvas together, forming a physical image that resembles two pair of scissors. This sex act is more properly referred to as “tribadism” or the more informal “tribbing.”
Skeet/Skit
Popularized most recently by the comedian Dave Chappelle and the rapper Lil John, this term refers generally to generous female lubrication; it can also refer sometimes to female ejaculation.
