So, I was talking to one of my friends the other day and we somehow got on the discussions of our pussy muscles. She told me that we have muscles inside our vagina and, if exercised really well, then you can control the movement of your inner pussy during sex. I thought she was full of it. I never heard that sort of thing before. My sex life has been pretty good, but I don't think I've ever flexed my vagina muscles while someone else is inside of me. Now I'm curious. Do we have muscles inside our vagina and can it affect (or improve) the way we have sex?

What your friend is talking about is a Kegel exercise. Like any exercise, these are made to tone and tighten. When you do a “kegel,” you exercise and strengthen your pelvic floor. This is really important for women who are about to have babies, people who have weak bladders, and, as your friend suggested, to help make sex even better. The idea behind this is that you are able to strengthen your vagina. Now onto the question: how do you do one? Next time you are in the bathroom urinating, try and stop your flow. Feel those muscles? Now relax and start again. Try to stop it one more time. This is the easiest way to feel the muscles. Once you have figured out where these muscles are and how to use them, you can start practicing this every day, by doing ten in the morning, and moving your way up to 100. The great thing about Kegels is that you can do them anywhere—your desk at work, at the store, driving in your car—and no one knows what you are doing! If only all exercise was this easy!
You can also start to use these muscles when having sex, or using a vibrator or dildo, if you think of “grabbing” the penis or dildo and trying to hold it into your vagina. The idea of grabbing or holding will be the same as the muscles you use to stop your flow of urine. Try doing this with your boyfriend inside of you-he will notice and it will enhance his sexual experience as well!
